10/08/2018
At the Lifesaving South Africa Annual Awards evening on 28 July 2018 Sun City Life Saving Club has been awarded with the Bavo Verheyden Trophy. This trophy has been established in October 2011 at the occasion of the annual meeting of Lifesaving South Africa (LSA) in memory of Bavo Verheyden, who drowned in the ocean off the Ntafufu River mouth in April 2011. On that occasion the board of Lifesaving South Africa decided to introduce a new award for the club with the largest achievements in drowning prevention.
The club won the Bavo Verheyden Trophy for the Best Drowning Prevention Initiative for the 2017/2018 season for increasing the level of water safety awareness amongst the youth in their communities. More info can be found here. Safe Coastal Tourism congratulates this club for their achievements in drowning prevention. In particular it thanks Sifiso Simamane and Lerato Mokoka for their efforts to raise water safety awareness, so more children are capable of keeping themselves safe in water, with less risk of drowning.
